Last year, AMD launched their Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU (review here); this CPU was optimised explicitly for gaming, using AMD’s 2nd generation X3D technology to deliver top-class gaming performance. Now, AMD has come to CES 2025 with new Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs, but this time, they are catering to both creators and gamers alike. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D have arrived!
With the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, AMD has added its second-generation 3D V-Cache technology to one of this CPU’s CCDs. This gives it144MB of total cache, 64MB more than a standard Ryzen 9 9950X.
In gaming workloads, AMD has promised an 8% performance boost on average (across 40 games) compared to their last-generation 7950X3D. However, it is worth noting that many of the games below are over 20% faster. Clearly, some games benefit more from AMD’s Zen 5 cores and Gen 2 3D V-Cache than others.
Compared to Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K, Intel’s new 9950X3D is 20% faster on average. That makes AMD’s newest X3D chips the obvious choice for modern gaming workloads.
For content creation, AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D delivers stronger performance gains than gaming. On average, AMD has reported 13% faster performance across 20 productivity/creation-based apps compared to AMD’s last-gen 7950X3D.
Compared to Intel’s 285K, AMD has reported 10% faster creation-based performance on average with their 9950X3D. This makes AMD’s CPU faster in both gaming and productivity workloads.
