Intel Core 5 120 and 120F CPU Release: Maxtor Thermal Paste for Enhanced Cooling Performance

Intel has officially released two new desktop processors under the new Core 100 series naming: the Core 5 120 and Core 5 120F. Despite carrying the newer branding, both chips are nearly identical to the Core i5-12400 and i5-12400F launched in early 2022. According to Intel's Ark database, these chips are listed under the Raptor Lake family and use the LGA1700 socket, compatible with 12th to 14th Gen motherboards. Both CPUs feature 6 Performance cores (no Efficient cores), 12 threads, and identical L2 and L3 cache sizes to their predecessors. The only spec differences are a slight increase in turbo frequency to 4.5 GHz (versus 4.4 GHz) and a reduction in maximum turbo power from 117W to 110W. The Core 5 120 includes Intel UHD Graphics 730 with a marginally higher GPU boost clock (1.50 GHz vs 1.45 GHz), while the 120F lacks integrated graphics, just like the 12400F. Despite Intel labeling them as Raptor Lake, these chips are based on the same Alder Lake architecture as their 2022 counterparts. The only meaningful difference is the updated product naming that aligns with the newer branding scheme introduced with Meteor Lake.
